Mom of one and owner of a Sandton florist and gift store, I started running ‘seriously’ about 2 years ago in my early 40’s. I’ve always been a fairly active person, but never thought that I would ever call myself a runner. It was doing the occasional Parkrun and the Spur Trail Series that started me thinking otherwise, and I remember the huge sense of satisfaction when I ran my first 5 km without walking once.
Over time, I progressed to 10, 15 and eventually 21kms, something I never in my wildest dreams thought I would do! I have a few of those under my belt now, and will stick to a limit of 21km to keep it fun! I consider myself a fairly slow runner, but I’ve come to realize its not about how fast or slow you are, its about getting out there, doing it, and reaping the rewards, physically and mentally!
I just love the camaraderie of running a race, the solitude of running alone and the great sense of accomplishment after finishing a run, no matter how long or short. I hope that I am lucky enough to be able to run for many years to come. My running friends and I keep each other motivated, and now Sandi and I look forward to encouraging other ladies living in our area to get out there and run together.
