I’m Candice Davies, wife and working mom of 2 energetic and active young boys (F.Y.I. That’s a lot of testosterone to be around all the time).
I’m a practicing psychotherapist in private practice and much of my work involves working with women and women-related challenges, specifically women who have a challenging relationship with food and their body. Women with a history of dieting and who have a distorted relationship with food tend to think that they can “hate” themselves into change and exercise is often a thing they “have-to-do” rather than something they want to do or dare I say, even enjoy.
I really believe in working out because you love your body, not because you hate it! I have always been an active person. I’m pretty much up to try any body movement that makes my body and mind feel great: yoga, SWEAT 1000, pilates, walking, Cross Fit and of course running.
To be perfectly honest I have a love-hate relationship with running. Some days I feel strong and fit and my runs are easy and leave me feeling like I’m on top of the world; other days they are boring, hard and challenging and leave me feeling tired and flat. But I have really learnt to stick it out because that’s just how it is. Just like life – there are times when we riding high and times when we down and low. But it doesn’t last forever and things can change – and do change – from day to day!
After having my second son, I decided to take on a personal fitness challenge to get moving again and my goal was to run my first half marathon. I roped my husband into my plan, ran, ran and ran some more and even though it took a year to get there, together we ran our first 21km in March.
I’m not the fastest runner and I’m definitely no pro, I’m a normal woman who works, cooks, eats lots of chocolate (one has to when living with 3 boys and all the dirt, insects, farts, burps and wrestling that comes with them) – and runs.
I hope to see you on some of the Gallo Manor/Wendywood runs. We’ll pump some music, be healthy and motivated together and hopefully have some fun along the way!
