To be honest with you, I have never really been a sporty person as I was never really good at it. I have never been a fan of competing with other people, as I firmly believe the only person you are competing is yourself.
A few years ago I started running not only to get fit but also to find a balance in life. It was a challenge at first but the feeling of having pushed your own limits is like no other. The 5 km that used to be quite a stretch, turned into 10km, which turned into 15km and with every further kilometre became more liberating than ever imagined.
The infamous Two Oceans Half Marathon was my first 21 km EVER and I must say this one was a game changer. I ran all 21 kilometres with my amazing cousin who pushed, motivated and supported me throughout the entire race. I don’t really think back to the difficulties (so yes, I also tend to forget the rain, the waking up at a ridiculous hour, the cramps in my legs), but vividly remember the singing we did along the route, the Spartan cry we made after every kilometre, the people we cheered on along the way and the exceptional vibe that we all felt right down to our core.
I’ll never forget the moment we crossed that finish line. I had achieved something I never thought I could and I was blessed with the very best person to share this emotional day with.
Since that day I have been honoured to motivate, support and join two friends through their first half marathons on separate occasions. I admired both of their willpower, enthusiasm and ambition throughout this experience.
Currently you will find me running races almost every weekend with my wonderful friends, hiking every odd weekend to embrace our beautiful environment.
I tend to go spinning, running and do yoga during the week.
