The founders of Catch Me If You Can (CMIYC) are joining the #RunClean Campaign to drastically reduce the usage of single-use plastics at running events. In joined efforts with Liberty Two Degrees (L2D) and Reuterina Femme, Catch Me If You Can Running Club is introducing sustainable initiatives to make a difference.
Catch Me If You Can which holds various running events at the L2D co-owned Sandton City, will stop providing certain plastic items at their upcoming CMIYC events, these include plastic sachets, starting with the Women For Change Run on the 30th November 2019.
L2D – which co-owns South Africa’s most iconic retail assets Sandton City, Eastgate Shopping Centre and Nelson Mandela Square among others is in the process of implementing a ‘no plastic shopping bag, no balloons and no plastic straws’ policy across its malls, effective 1 January 2020. Catch Me If You Can Running Club will leverage off L2D’s policy to further extend the various initiatives to the campaign.
With rising levels of plastic pollution, it is no longer a case of best practice to eradicate single use plastics but rather a commitment of paramount importance and necessity. Plastics are a big part of the climate change and other related environmental challenges that our country and rest of the world face. Each of us have to take a bold stand and play our part in ensuring that we give back positively to the natural environment in a sustainable manner. I am pleased that CMIYC has come on board to join L2D on its sustainability journey because together we can make a difference.
said Amelia Beattie, Chief Executive of L2D.

Women for Change is about creating a better society for our children and this includes leaving them a healthy planet with fresh air and clean water. It is for this reason that we support the #RunClean initiative.
